Today, the Strategy Engineering skills are crucial in many domains, including business management, government, military, security and homeland defense. It is a new discipline that combines modeling, simulation, data analytics, artificial intelligence and machine learning to support the strategic decision-making process.

Games are intrinsically related with strategy, as they typically require and spur a player to think of and implement a strategy in order to achieve the goal. SGs add to this the fact that they purposely target a goal which is not pure entertainment.

In this context, the International Journal on Serious Games seeks original manuscripts for a Special Issue on “Serious Games and Simulation for Strategic Engineering”, which is tentatively scheduled to appear in the December 2019 issue. The special issue promotes the innovative concepts related to the use of Serious Games and Simulation within the new discipline of Strategic Engineering.

The special issue will be based on best contributions presented at the WAMS2018 in Prague and I3M2018 in Budapest, but the invitation to submit is open to all interested authors.

Submitted contributions should reflect one or more of the following sample topics of interest for this special issue, although other relevant research topics will also be considered:

  • Artificial Intelligence for Planning & Operations
  • Data Analytics & Hard Decisions
  • Decision Support System
  • Disruptive Technologies investigated by Serious Games
  • Education and Training for Decision Makers
  • Innovative Serious Games
  • Intelligent Agents in Modeling and Simulation
  • Machine Learning for Decision Making
  • Modeling and Simulation
  • Models for Support Decisions
  • Serious Games & Big Data
  • Strategic Management
  • Strategic Planning

Submitted papers must describe original research which is not published or under revision by other journals, conferences or books. Authors are responsible for understanding and adhering to submission guidelines published on the IJSG website (). In case you have already published a similar paper on WAMS2018 or I3M2018, please note that your contribution need to be extended for being suitable for the special issue of this International Journal.

When submitting your paper, be sure to specify that the paper is a contribution for the Special Issue on “Serious Games and Simulation for Strategic Engineering”, so that your paper is assigned to the guest editors. Please see the Author Instructions on the site if you have not yet submitted a paper through this web-based system.

We are looking forward to receiving your contribution.
